Other horror/thriller films- Cloverfield

Cloverfield (2008) is another film which uses the handheld technique. This film is less a thriller and more of a horror/ sci fi film. The film revolved around a group of people as a monster/alien invasion takes place in New York. The use of the handheld camera techniques is very effective at creating a panicky atmosphere as the group try to escape the invasion. The trailer in particular uses short shots of the panic and some black shots to create a realistic 'home video' effect. Another shot which we used in our film is a handheld shot of someone running whilst holding the camera, this is an effect used in both films, Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project although boh of these films use this technique to show someone running away from something we have used it in our film: November 13th but we used it to show the stalker chasing the girl.
